Home- and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Medicaid Waivers

Alabama’s Medicaid waivers provide services to support persons with intellectual or significant physical and medical disabilities so they can live at home or in other community-based settings.

Alabama runs seven Medicaid waiver programs, serving more than 23,000 Alabamians with disabilities. Each waiver has its own eligibility standards and provides different services. Depending on the waiver, the services can include things like personal care, skilled nursing, behavioral supports, respite services, supported employment services, assistive technology, and homemaker services.

ADAP handles a variety of issues related to waivers including eligibility denials and disputes about services.
